Kate Visits Antarctica!

In the latest instalment of our team's travels we hear from Luxury and Long Haul Senior Travel Specialist, Kate...

Name:

Kate Goodrich

Where did you go?

Antarctica

When did you go?

November 2023

Which operator did you travel with?

Polar Latitudes

What were your top 3 holiday moments?

1. Landing on the White Continent for the first time after 2 days crossing the famous Drake Passage. Stepping on to land takes your breath away. It’s the coldest, driest, windiest, highest space on the planet but it’s remarkably beautiful.

2. Seeing penguins walking along their penguin highways, they get the right of way in Antarctica, and you move out of their way! Any human footprints are swiftly covered up to avoid penguins falling in your tracks and not being able to get out!

3. A pod of 18 orca sailed up to our ship and swam alongside which we were told is unusual behaviour, we were lucky enough to see mothers and calves.

A reason to return?

It’s a destination that for once I may say I won’t return to as it’s not always somewhere to visit again but it’s given me the bug for more expedition cruises elsewhere in the world!

It’s all about picking the right ship for the best experience. Passenger numbers are limited to 100 on land at any time which is where a smaller ship comes into its own, maximising your time on land.
