What were the top 3 aspects of your holiday?

1. The Japanese culture is a delight! Gratitude in Japan is a large part of most people’s disposition and witnessing this first hand, combined with their ancient traditions was a revelation. I haven’t visited a country that has enchanted me this way for a long time.

2. Tokyo has something for everyone and is so much more than Neon lights. There is a real mix of ancient culture and modern life. I found this combination intoxicating but the stand out visit was the TeamLab art exhibition where you walk through art to become part of it.

3. We were lucky enough to visit the pilgrim trail of Koyasan and take a tour with a former monk. The night visit to Okunion (sacred cemetery) is one of the most special best moments in all my travels. As the land is sacred, I don’t have photos but the memories are wonderful.

A reason to return?

I feel that I only just scratched the surface of what Japan can offer and although never a front runner on my wish list I would love to return myself.

From Geishas to a street for just for children in Tokyo, ancient traditions, quirky anime, wildlife, amazing beaches and buzzing cities there really is something for everyone. Even the flight time hasn’t put me off – and guess who saw the northern lights on the way home!
