Torr Takes a Caribbean Cruise

In the latest instalment of our team's travels we hear from European Travel Specialist, Torr...

Name:

Torr Walker

Where did you go?

Caribbean Cruise visiting Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts & Nevis, Antigua, St Maarten, Martinique, Tortola (British Virgin Island) and Grenada.

Which operator did you travel with?

P&O Cruises on their newest ship, Arvia.

When did you go?

November 2024

What were your top 3 moments?

1. We loved the choice of dining onboard Arvia, you could eat in a different restaurant almost every evening. Two of our favourites were the Beach House, which has a South American/Caribbean twist and the Keel and Cow, which is a gastropub/steakhouse. We especially loved the two formal nights onboard. It was nice to have the opportunity to get dressed up and enjoy a 5-course celebration menu in the main dining room.

2. We were lucky enough to take a once in a lifetime helicopter tour of St Lucia, few places in the world offer the spectacular scenery that you find on this island. Highlights of the trip were taking in the views of The Pitons, Soufriere Volcano, Marigot Bay, Pigeon Island and Lush Rainforests.

3. All of the islands were so welcoming; however, Barbados was one of our personal favourites. In the day we toured all around the island, visiting the exclusive west coast, this part of Barbados is often referred to as the ‘Platinum Coast’ and is renowned for the clear calm beaches. Other highlights of the day were visiting Bridgetown (Barbados’ capital), cherry tree hill with its sweeping views of the east coast and visiting Rihanna Drive (where Rihanna once lived). As we docked overnight in Barbados, we got to experience the famous Oistins Fish Friday where you have an opportunity to enjoy the very best local food in a bustling market.

Tell us more about your experience...

This was our first ever cruise and it took a lot of persuading until my partner agreed to book. Yet three days into the cruise, we were already looking to book again for 2025! Our perception on cruising completely changed, it’s true that there’s a cruise out there for everyone. We loved the fact we had some relaxing days at sea along with plenty ports of call where we could get out and explore a snippet of each island, the best of both worlds!

A reason to return?

Some of the beaches were absolutely incredible, white powdery sand that you see only in photos. I would love to return as you fully switch off in the Caribbean with their laid-back lifestyle.
